The Left of Dead.

Supposed peace activists find solace in verbally condemning the settlement movement and the harsh conditions that emanate from occupation. Yet most aren't doing anything to actively stop it, and when moral fiber is truly urgent, as was the case during the Lebanon war or the continuing debilitating sanctions and bombardment on the Palestinian people, they remain silent. Condemnation after a war isn't moral reflection, it's cowardice. There is no difference between hawkish and dovish policy in Israel, only a divergence in the approach to implement it. Those on the "far left," who are the brink of being classified as "self-hating Jews," including self-styled humanitarians such as Meretz MK Yossi Beilin, only serve to massage their own egos and consciences by portraying an image that they are fighting for peace. In reality, these people assign themselves to the same racist and exclusivist ideology that came into form long before the creation of the state of Israel.

As I began reading this I wondered if I had a full-blown encounter here with a psychotic or with a psychopath. I wondered if the writer would explain just how far left of dead a Jew has to be to qualify as a Leftist in good standing. Then I found out I was reading, not a typical Leftist lunatic but a typical Palestinian hate-monger. These people are not simply insane, they're armed and struggling agianst all restraints to commit murder en masse. There is a time and a place for that, and we who are civilized refer to it as the battle field. Our enemies refer to it as the office or the school or the theatre or the subway train or the airport counter or just wherever one happens to be at the time.

Well, the lines are becoming increasingly clear, and the time is coming nearer daily when we'll find out who rules and who sucks. Meanwhile, we write, we meet, we talk. Sit with us. Don't end up Left for Dead.

Yes, but one line you draw that isn't clear to me anymore is that between typical leftist lunatic and Palestinian hate monger. Israel needs to put mirrors on the outside of their wall/fence.

I expect to see a mass movement of Leftist into the umma soon. there is, as you point out above, a vacuum that will suck the atheist/agnostic gnostics into it simply because the self-disgust that comes from the nihilism either drives people to drink and an early grave or it drives them to desperate conformity, which the Stalinist Left no longer provides for. What's left is Islam, the stupidest and most hate-filled poligion of our time, and one waiting for defeated and frustrated leftists to join in a blind fury.

The alternative, I sggest, is to sit with us and make something positive from this wreckage of our time. I repeat that we are blessed in this time in that we are able to make our world again over and better than before. Our renewal is a beauty awaiting its rightful birth, and we, the midwives of it stand to gain beyond measure. This is a blessing unlike any I could have imagined. I look in the mirror and I laugh from sheer joy that I'm alive in this glorious time.

I couldn't look at myself if I were a hate-filled Leftist. I'd have to look outward and blame someone else, like Bush or the Jooos. But I see myself as alive in a wonderful time ready to do some great thing: to be part of a new rising of Human beings bent on bringing freedom to the world in places where there is now only slavery and ignorance and fear and mighty violence.

Wat more could we ask for than the chance to fight for the Good? Simple good like Ajax and tile floors and clean water and wholesome food and chemical additives in our bodies that keep us healthy and happy. The right to look freely at the Internet. The right to criticize those in power, right or wrong, without fer of the strongman's thugs breaking our legs or torturing our families. Simple things that only happen as the norm in democracies, our withering states. To increase it and to make it stronger and to give a chance to others who could long for it, that is a blessing.
