Dutch mayor fights back against islamist homophobia

A follow-up to the story we reported two weeks ago, on the troubling increase of incidents of muslim immigrants attacking Holland's gay community.

The mayor of Amsterdam is not taking this problem of violent homophobic islamists lying down. The kid gloves are off: authorities have announced they will... study the problem.
Netherlands authorities are commissioning a study to determine why Moroccan men target gays in Amsterdam considered one of Europe's most gay friendly cities.

Amsterdam has experienced a growing number of attacks on gays and lesbians, Der Spiegel reported Friday. In 2006, the Dutch metropolis registered 32 hate crimes directed at gays, but during the first half of 2007, 26 had already been counted, the newspaper said.
....
Half the hate crimes were committed by men of Moroccan origin. Some researchers believe they lashed out at local gays after feeling stigmatized by Dutch society, the newspaper said.

Actually, old bones, there is a rather fundamental difference between "hate the sin but love the sinner" (which is just how most people treat themselves) and "beat or kill the evil doer" - public executions of gays still go on in several Islamic countries, countries where pederasty is widespread, including among those who scapegoat "gays". So much of history turns on appreciating such a difference, including pretty much all the history that lets Sean be what he is... but heh, self-knowledge ain't no more fun than dirty righteousness...

Why should one group have the right to voice their opinion while another does not?

Labelling people who speak out truthfully against homosexuality as "haters" and threatening them with punishment only creates corruption, bias and social tension.

I'd like to see equal time in the media for arguments for and against homosexuality. I'd like to see real examples and statistics. Doesn't that sound fair?

I don't condone terrorism in any form. Open honest communication isn't hatred.
